The Style Debate: Should You Really Wear Sunglasses Inside?
Because sometimes the sun has nothing to do with it.

There are few accessories with quite as much attitude as sunglasses. The right pair can change the proportions of a face, sharpen an outfit and give even the simplest look a little more character.
But what happens when there is no sun?
Wearing sunglasses indoors - or after dark - has long divided the fashion crowd. To some, it is the ultimate expression of confidence: a little mysterious, a little rebellious, completely unconcerned with convention. To others, it is an accessory being worn simply because it is supposed to look cool.
And then there is a third option worth considering: the light tint.
So, should you keep your sunglasses on, take them off, or find the middle ground?
KEEP THEM ON
When eyewear becomes part of the look.

The case for sunglasses indoors has never really been about practicality. It is about presence.
A strong frame can give an outfit an entirely different energy - oversized and glamorous, slim and understated, vintage-inspired or unapologetically bold. Think of the people who have made dark glasses part of their visual identity: the appeal has little to do with blocking sunlight.
Sometimes the sunglasses are simply the finishing touch.
And if a dark lens feels too dramatic for indoors, a light tint makes a surprisingly compelling alternative. Soft grey, champagne, pale brown, rose or even a subtle yellow can add colour and dimension while keeping the eyes visible. The effect is less sunglasses after dark and more fashion eyewear with a point of view.
It is also a gentler way to experiment with the trend. A lightly tinted lens can make a familiar frame feel completely different without dominating the face - particularly when paired with a considered outfit.
Because not everything we wear needs to be strictly functional. Sometimes an accessory is there simply because it makes the whole look better.

TAKE THEM OFF
Because knowing when to stop is part of style.

There is, however, a reason the sunglasses-indoors look can feel slightly forced.
Sunglasses are designed to protect your eyes from light. Take away the light and, suddenly, the argument for wearing them disappears. At a formal dinner, across a restaurant table or during a conversation, keeping dark lenses on can create a certain distance - and not always the desirable kind.
There is also something undeniably appealing about seeing someone's eyes.
The best style rarely looks as though it is trying to prove a point. If the sunglasses are distracting from the person wearing them, perhaps they have done their job a little too well.
And sometimes the most confident move is simply to take them off.
THE VERDICT
There is no rule. There is only the right frame.
Sunglasses indoors are not really a question of right or wrong. They are a question of setting, attitude and proportion.
At a dimly lit bar? A dark, sculptural frame might work perfectly.
At a formal dinner? Take them off.
Want to keep the eyewear but soften the statement? Try a light tint.
A pale lens offers the best of both worlds: the colour, character and individuality of tinted eyewear, without the visual barrier of a dark sunglass.
Ultimately, the trick is not knowing whether you can wear sunglasses indoors.
It is knowing which ones make sense when you do.
